Recipe Overview

Let’s face it. Most of us have made a late-night run to the local drive-thru taco & burrito place at least once in our lives. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to recreate those tasty treats in half the time it takes to fire up the car and wait in line?

Enter the Air Fryer Burrito.

With only 5 minutes of cooking time, your air fryer can produce the most scrumptious burritos around. And there’s a bonus: you know exactly what’s inside. No more guessing what ingredients the restaurant uses.

ingredients you’ll need

a bowl of beans and veggies, an air fryer, and a plate topped with an unrolled burrito
  • Canned Black Beans – Make sure you drain and rinse your beans well.
  • Fresh Diced Tomato – Tomatoes add a bright color and a tangy flavor to this dish.
  • Green Onions – Lighter in flavor than regular onion and perfect for Mexican food.
  • Cilantro – I LOVE cilantro! Use as much as you like here.
  • Lime Juice – Adds a citrus kick and some acidity to the mix.
  • Salsa – Choose your favorite brand of pre-made salsa.
  • Medium tortillas – A flour or corn tortilla will work for these.
  • Cooked Rice – Adds bulk to your burrito mixture.
  • Mozzarella cheese – I love how mozzarella melts here, but you can use a different type of cheese if you like.

How to Make them

  1. Mix together the beans, veggies, and cilantro.
  2. Gather your tortillas, rice, and cheese.
  3. Place a small amount of rice in the center of your burrito wrap.
  4. Add a layer of the bean & veggie filling.
  5. Add a layer of cheese and roll your burritos.
  6. Place two burritos in the basket of your air fryer, and cook!

Tips and tricks

  • Don’t overfill! Make sure that your burrito filling fits snug in the center of the tortilla. Adding too much filling will make it difficult to wrap the burrito, and could result in the fillings coming out of the burrito while it’s air frying.
  • Avoid crowding the basket. To ensure that the burritos cook thoroughly, I like to cook two at a time. If your air fryer basket is bigger, you could easily cook up to four burritos at once, but be sure to leave a little room between each one.
  • Arrange burritos side by side. If you want to cook more than one burrito at a time, you can line the burritos up side by side. Avoid stacking burritos so that they’re easy to remove from the air fryer basket.
  • Spice up your burrito with your favorite salsa or hot sauce!

Can you freeze air fryer burritos??

Yes, you can absolutely freeze air fryer burritos! However, I recommend filling and rolling them, then freezing them

Air Fryer recipes sounds healthy. I can have these delicious Burritos at any meal. Cant wait to make my batch this weekend.

  4. Can we pop them in the freezer after prepped or do they need to be cooked and eaten immediately?

    1. Hi Lauren, that is a great question. Yes, you can make/prep/roll the burritos and then fill them. You may need to adjust the cook time a little when you pop them back into the air fryer when frozen. But it makes for a great meal prep for later!
