air fryer desserts are the best!

I can bake up any kind of dessert, cookies, or cakes without heating up the whole kitchen with the oven. It’s a great trick for camping or any time you’re cooking without a full kitchen too.

Almost any baking recipe can be modified to work in the air fryer. Try our recipes for Air Fryer Donuts, or Air Fryer Peanut Butter Cookies.

Gather the Ingredients

ingredients for air fryer bread pudding on a white countertop
  • French Bread – Cut the bread into cubes. I like using French bread in this recipe because it’s firm and will hold it’s shape, but in a pinch, you could use other types of bread too.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream – Bread pudding involves a custard-y base, created with heavy cream, milk, and eggs.
  • Whole Milk – This makes our bread pudding extra creamy.
  • Eggs – Eggs are the last technical ingredient for our custard, and hold everything together.
  • Sugar – for sweetness and to create the caramelized butterscotch flavor.
  • Vanilla – Great in all baked goods, vanilla is warm, and smells amazing.
  • Butter – Lots of butter goes into this recipe. Go with it. It’s so yummy.
  • Butter Flavored Syrup – This pancake syrup turns the sauce for this dessert into a buttery, delicious thing.

how to Make It

We will be cooking two separate individual-sized bread puddings, one at a time. Make sure to read the recipe card at the bottom of this page for full details and notes.

  1. Soak half of the bread cubes with 3/4 cup of heavy cream and half of the milk. Set aside the remaining bread, cream, and milk.
  2. Beat 1 egg and stir in 1/2 cup of sugar and one tablespoon of vanilla.
  3. Grease the spring mold pan with 1 tbsp before adding the soaked bread cubes. Once the soaked bread is in the pan, pour over the sugar and egg mixture. Wrap the bottom of the pan in foil and air fry as directed in the recipe card below. Remove pan from air fryer and let cool for 15 minutes before removing bread pudding. Repeat steps for the second pudding.
  4. In a saucepan, melt 1 stick of butter with flavored syrup and 1 cup of sugar. While whisking, bring the sauce to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and let sit to cool.

How to serve

To serve your dessert, allow the bread puddings and sauce to cool. Drizzle the sauce over the bread puddings, and top with a scoop of your favorite ice cream.

Butter pecan ice cream goes perfectly with this, but vanilla ice cream works fine too.

baking tips

Having the right tools is key for making baked dishes in the air fryer. You want to make sure that you have a small springform cake pan that fits inside of your air fryer. A silicone pan would work too, but you won’t get the nice crispy edges that a metal pan gives.

For this recipe, it’s actually really handy to have 2 pans. that way you can cook both puddings without needing to wait for the first one to cool.

can I use maple syrup?

You definitely can! If you prefer the flavor of maple syrup, use it in place of the butter flavor syrup. You’ll have less of a butterscotch flavor and more of a maple flavor, but it will still be delicious.

can I make just one serving?

Absolutely! This recipe can be adjusted to make as many servings as you’d like to air fry.
