How to Make our Spicy Honey Chicken Wings
Step 1: Prep the wings
Clean the chicken wings and place them in a medium bowl. Season them with salt, pepper, and 1 Tablespoon of olive oil. Mix until evenly combined.
Step 2: Cook the Wings
Cook the wings at 390°F (200 °C)for 20 to 25 minutes, depending on how crispy you want them. If you have a small air fryer, work in batches if needed.
Step 3: Prep the the guajillo chilis
Add the guajillo chilis to a small saucepan. Add 1/2 cup of water and let it boil for 6 minutes.
Step 4: Blend the Sauce
Pour the chilies (with the water left in the saucepan), together with the garlic, onion, paprika, orange juice, lime juice, and vinegar, into a blender. Blend until smooth.
Step 5: Strain the Sauce
Use a strainer to make sure you remove any pieces of chili, so it is completely smooth.
Step 6: Warm the sauce
Add one tablespoon of olive oil to a medium saucepan. Let it heat up and pour the sauce into the pan and heat on low until it thickens a bit, about 10 minutes. Stirring constantly. While it’s heating up, add in the honey, and additional salt and pepper to taste. Mix until combined.
Step 7: Toss the Wings
Remove the chicken wings from the air fryer and place them into a large mixing bowl. Pour the sauce on top and toss until evenly covered.
Step 8: Serve
Garnish with cilantro (optional, but recommended) and serve!
Tips and Tricks
- If you want them very spicy, leave the guajillo chilis with the seeds and veins. If you want them mild, leave them in only two of the chilis.
- Add a tablespoon or two of sriracha to the sauce for extra spice.
Serving Ideas
These go great paired with some veggies and with most types of dipping sauces – we recommend ranch.
Serve them as an appetizer, main dish, or side.
