Air Fryer Wontons Recipe
The best part of eating out at any Asian restaurant is the cream cheese wontons. Bring the Chinese buffet home without the excess oil for a healthier option. And the best part is you can add as much (or as little) filling as you like!
These Air Fryer Wontons are filled with a cream cheese filling seasoned with chopped green onions, sriracha, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, for the perfect balance of flavors.
Pair these wontons with Air Fryer Fried Rice and Air Fryer Orange Chicken to complete this homemade takeout meal.
The air fryer has changed the way we all cook by creating dishes that get crispy on the outside and stay tender on the inside. It's revolutionary. This method delivers all that and much more.
Ingredients In Air Fryer Wontons
Cream Cheese: Cream cheese is the base of our wontons– make sure it’s softened so the other ingredients incorporate smoothly.
Green Onion: Green onion adds a bit of freshness and earthy flavor to the wontons.
Sriracha: Sriracha adds a tiny bit of spice to the wontons– feel free to add it to taste and skip it if you prefer.
Garlic and Onion Powder: Garlic powder and onion powder add even more flavor to the filling.
Paprika: Paprika adds a bit of warmth and a hint of smoky flavor to the wontons.
Wonton Wrappers: I’m using store-bought wonton wrappers– they’re available next to the tofu in most grocery stores.
Sweet and Sour Sauce: Wontons are typically served with sweet and sour sauce or sweet chili sauce– feel free to use whichever one you have on hand!

Tips And Tricks For Making Air Fryer Wontons
- The wonton fold is the most important step of this recipe to ensure your filling doesn't leak. Just remember to wet the edges of the wonton wrapper and follow the steps to secure the perfect seal.
- Keep your wonton wrappers pliable by laying a damp paper towel over the wrappers that aren't being used.
- Don't overcrowd the air fryer. This may prevent the overall crispiness of the wontons. Cook them in smaller batches so they are hot and fresh for your guests.
- Get creative with your fillings! Kick up the heat by adding extra sriracha or a pinch of white pepper to the filling. Or make sweet dessert wontons by mixing cream cheese and powdered sugar to fill your wrappers, and tossing the finished wontons in a cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Storage Tips: Air fried wontons can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days, though they may not retain their crispiness (though they will still taste great). Reheat them in the air fryer for 2-3 minutes at 350° F until warmed through.
- Storage Tips: You can freeze Air Fried Wontons for up to 3 months in the freezer. Follow the same method to heat them back up, but add 1-2 additional minutes until warmed through.

FAQs
Prepare the cream cheese filling and store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days before assembling and frying. Or you can fully assemble the wontons up to 1 day in advance before frying.
Cook your assembled wontons at 350ºF/176ºC for 7 minutes. We always recommend you air fry a test wonton first to make sure the timing is perfect for your air fryer.
If you've noticed your wontons are losing their crispness during cooling, try setting your fried wontons on a cooling rack over a baking sheet. This may help them maintain their crispness.
Our favorite dipping sauces are sweet and sour sauce and sweet chili sauce. Sweet and spicy sriracha dipping sauce is also super good with these! The sweet and salty flavor of coconut aminos, or even classic soy sauce would taste great.
Pro Tips
- Use Any Air Fryer: This recipe can be made in an air fryer unit with a basket or an air fryer oven. If you're using an air fryer oven, place your food on the middle rack and select the "air fry" function.
- Check your food as it cooks! Since each air fryer runs differently, sometimes air frying is a trial and error-process. When cooking a new recipe, be sure to check on your food often. This will help you avoid over or undercooking, and help you learn your air fryer's specific ways!
