What could be better than hot and fresh french toast sticks, with crispy edges, dipped in maple syrup? I know!
Overview
I’ve enjoyed frozen french toast sticks since my teen years. I recall a time when a fast food restaurant added cinnamon french toast sticks to their breakfast menu. It was love at first bite for me! I don’t eat much fast food anymore, so I’m glad that I can still get these in the freezer section to enjoy. The air fryer makes frozen french toast sticks perfectly crispy without deep frying too.
The microwave makes french toast sticks soggy and chewy, but it just takes a few minutes to get hot, crispy, and perfect french toast sticks using this easy Air Fryer French Toast Sticks method.

Grab those French Toast Sticks
No ingredients here, just the french toast sticks. These usually come in a box at the grocery store, and today I’m using Walmart brand french toast sticks. You can often find frozen french toast sticks at Costco or Sam’s Club in bulk as well. Keep the french toast sticks frozen until you’re ready to cook them.
Optionally, you may want to have some maple syrup nearby to dip these into, or a bit of cinnamon sugar to sprinkle on top.
Air Frying Instructions
- Remove the frozen french toast sticks from their outer packaging. Sometimes there will be a plastic bag inside the outer box. None of that should go into the air fryer with them.
- Place the frozen french toast sticks in your air fryer basket in a single layer. If needed, work in batches to cook the entire box.
- Air fry at 400F for 5-6 minutes, flipping the french toast sticks over halfway through, until lightly golden and heated through.
- Serve immediately with maple syrup and berries if you like.
Serving Ideas
You’ll notice that I’m serving these french toast sticks with some fresh fruit and syrup for dipping. that’s really all you need to enjoy air fryer french toast sticks for breakfast.
If you’re a bit hungrier, try some of these other air fryer breakfast foods on the side.
Air Fryer Sausage is another quick breakfast food that will add some protein to your morning meal.
Air Fryer Sausage Links cook at the same temperature as these french toast sticks, so you can put them in the air fryer at the same time! Just be sure to take the french toast sticks out early, as the sausage takes about 10 minutes.
If you’re more of a bacon person than a sausage person, make Air Fryer Bacon or Air Fryer Turkey bacon to go with your french toast.
Dipping Recommendations
- Maple Butter – Mix 1 part maple syrup with 1 part melted butter.
- Jam – Warm raspberry or strawberry jam briefly in the microwave to make it easy to dip into. Yum!
- Yogurt – Your favorite type of yogurt can be a creamy dipping sauce with added protein for your breakfast. Kids love this!
- Chocolate Sauce – I’m a big fan of chocolate for breakfast. A bit of chocolate syrup is delicious on frozen french toast sticks.
- Frosting – Cinnamon french toast sticks dipped into vanilla icing remind me of cinnamon rolls!
FAQs
Nope…I actually recommend that you don’t thaw them. You can cook frozen french toast sticks directly from frozen, no thawing is needed. Thawed french toast sticks will either overcook or stay soggy.
Yep! You can cook any brand of french toast sticks in the air fryer! For Eggo, you can break them apart, or cook them in their bread slice shape. Because the Eggo brand is meant to go in a conventional toaster, they are thinner. Reduce the air fryer cooking time by 2 minutes or so to avoid overcooking.

We love french toast sticks in this busy house!
With 4 school age kids (plus husband!!!), mornings can be quite manic so I love the convenience of being able to throw frozen sticks in the air fryer while I concentrate on something else.
Not only do I have the added bonus of not having to turn the oven on, the air fryer is more kid-friendly, so I always have a volunteer ready to do the “checkin’ & shekkin'” (checking & shaking lol).
