Air Fryer Frozen Taquitos Directions

Frozen Taquitos are a delicious and easy-to-make frozen snack that kids love, and adults enjoy too!

While the instructions on the box might tell you to microwave taquitos or cook them in the oven, I’m here to tell you that the best way to cook frozen taquitos is in the air fryer.

They’ll be hot, crispy, and perfectly browned in just 8 minutes!

We’ve been testing all of your favorite frozen foods in the air fryer, and have over 40 recipes for frozen air fryer foods that you should try!

Some of my favorite quick and easy snacks include Air Fryer Bagel Bites and Frozen Popcorn Shrimp in the Air Fryer.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE MAKING FROZEN TAQUITOS IN AIR FRYER

Way better than microwaving – Microwaved taquitos are floppy, greasy, and sad. Sure, it’s quick to do it this way, but give yourself a few extra minutes and the air fryer will make the taquitos crispy, which the microwave will never accomplish.

Faster than the oven – Skip preheating the oven, dirtying a pan, and waiting for taquitos to bake! They’re ready in half the time made in the air fryer, and they come out crispier.

Kid Favorite – Teach older kids to make taquitos in the air fryer and they’ll be able to make their own after school snacks! My kids enjoy air fryer frozen peirogis and air fryer mini corn dogs too.

Frozen Taquitos – Here we’re making Delimex frozen taquitos in the air fryer, but you can cook Jose Ole, El Monterey, or any brand that you enjoy using these instructions.

This method will work with any style or flavor of frozen taquitos that you can find. Chicken taquitos, beef taquitos, taquitos made with corn tortillas, or those made with flour tortillas will all work here.

DO YOU NEED TO THAW TAQUITOS?

Nope! Don’t thaw the taquitos before cooking them in the air fryer. This method cooks them directly from the freezer!

SHOULD I SPRAY TAQUITOS WITH OIL IN THE AIR FRYER?

While I do add a bit of spray oil to many of my air fryer recipes, I have found that oil is not needed for making air fryer taquitos.

Like many frozen foods, taquitos are frozen with some oil already on them, so that oil is what helps them get super crispy and perfect in the air fryer.

HOW TO MAKE FROZEN TAQUITOS IN AIR FRYER

  1. Choose your favorite frozen taquitos, and remove them from their outer packaging.
  2. Place the taquitos in a single layer in the air fryer basket. You can cook as many as will fit this way. To do an entire box of taquitos, you may need to work in two batches.
  3. Air Fry as directed in the recipe below. Flip the taquitos over halfway through so that both sides get crispy. For extra crispy taquitos, add 1-2 extra minutes to the cooking time.
  4. Serve your air fryer frozen taquitos immediately with your favorite dipping sauces.

These numbered steps match the numbered photos above and are for illustration purposes. For the complete list of instructions for making taquitos in the air fryer, please see the recipe below.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH FROZEN TAQUITOS IN THE AIR FRYER

I always enjoy dipping sauces with crispy air fryer taquitos! Try sides of sour cream, salsa, guacamole, or this homemade cilantro garlic sauce. Yum!

You can also serve taquitos on a plate with toppings like lettuce, sliced jalapenos, pico de gallo, and cheese.

To turn frozen taquitos in the air fryer into a meal rather than a snack, include a fresh salad or a veggie side dish.

Black beans and rice are great with taquitos too, and will make sure everyone is full and happy!

ARE FROZEN TAQUITOS PRECOOKED?

Yes, all brands of frozen taquitos that I’ve encountered are precooked. This means that your only job is to make sure that they get hot all the way through and that the outsides are crispy and delicious.

For food safety, all fully cooked frozen foods should be cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F/74°C.

CAN I MAKE FROZEN FLAUTAS IN THE AIR FRYER TOO?

Frozen flautas are nearly the same as frozen taquitos. The main difference is that taquitos are wrapped in corn tortillas, while flautas are typically covered with a wheat flour tortilla.

Luckily, both types of frozen rolled tacos can be cooked in the air fryer in the exact same manner! Simply follow the instructions here to cook either frozen taquitos or frozen flautas in the air fryer.

CAN I COOK HOMEMADE TAQUITOS IN THE AIR FRYER?

You can make fresh taquitos in the air fryer with tortillas and your favorite fillings. They cook up in the air fryer super crispy. Go see my recipe for Air Fryer Taquitos for all of the details.

I use ground beef, cheese, and onions in the air fryer taquitos recipe, but you can adjust the filling and include anything you like.

HOW LONG DO YOU COOK FROZEN TAQUITOS IN AIR FRYER?

It takes about 8 minutes to cook frozen taquitos in the air fryer at 400°F/200°C.

Different brands of frozen taquitos might be slightly different sizes, so be sure to keep an eye on your food as it cooks. You may need a few less minutes or a few extra minutes to get them perfectly crispy.

Thank you! I usually microwave these taquitos and was never really happy with them, but thought “it is what it is”! I never thought of air frying them, but I’m glad I tried your tip!
