AIR FRYER CARROT FRIES RECIPE

One of my favorite things about cooking with the air fryer is how simple it is to cook veggies that are crispy and browned.

Air Frying Veggies is much like roasting them in the oven, but better!

Air Fryer Broccoli, Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts, and even Air Fryer Green Beans find their way to my dinner table regularly.

Roasted carrots are so good! The high heat treatment from roasting or air frying caramelizes the natural sugars in the carrots and makes them insanely delicious.

While you can make a roasted carrot side dish like roasted brussels and carrots in the oven, this recipe for Air Fryer Carrot Fries is faster and so much crispier!

WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS RECIPE FOR CARROT FRIES IN AIR FRYER

Healthy French Fry Substitute: Serve carrot fries in place of french fries when you want to be a bit healthier.

Kids Love These: Having trouble getting your kid to eat their veggies? No problem, just make the veggies look like french fries!

Sweet, Salty, and Amazing Flavor: The sweetness of the carrots, the smoky flavor from cooking, and the simple seasonings in this recipe make plain old carrots taste spectacular.

4 whole carrots. Small bowls filled with oil and seasoning are next to the carrots.

INGREDIENTS FOR CARROT FRIES AIR FRYER

Carrots – Large carrots are the easiest to cut into fries. This recipe makes a pound of carrots, or about 4 large carrots.

Oil – I prefer avocado oil, but olive oil is another good choice. Any type of mildly flavored cooking oil can be used to air fry carrot fries.

Seasonings – This blend of garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper is perfect for carrot fries. The carrots are sweet, particularly after being roasted in the air fryer, so that salty, savory seasonings balance it out.

Fresh Parsley – Technically optional, but I love adding a bit of chopped parsley to a dish to make it feel fancy and put together.

HOW TO MAKE CARROT FRIES AIR FRYER

  1. Slice the Carrots: Peel the carrots and then slice them into sticks that are about 4 inches long and 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Season: Toss the carrot sticks with oil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Fill the Basket: Add the oiled and seasoned carrots to the air fryer basket. It’s ok if they are overlapping, but you don’t want to overfill the air fryer.
  4. Cook: Air Fry as directed in the recipe card below. Halfway through the cooking time, give the basket a shake so that the carrot fries cook evenly.
  5. Garnish: Add the air fryer carrot fries to a plate and top with fresh chopped parsley.
  6. Serve immediately, with your favorite dipping sauces.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH AIR FRYER CARROT FRIES

Air Fryer Carrot Fries are a delicious side dish, and will go well with all of your favorite meals.

HOW THICK SHOULD I CUT CARROTS FOR FRIES?

When making air fryer carrot fries, it’s important not to cut them thinner than 1/4 of an inch. They will burn very easily if they are too thin.

You can make the carrot fries thicker than 1/4 of an inch, but they will need to cook for a bit longer.

I suggest cutting each carrot fry to a thickness of a quarter of an inch.

It’s also important that the fries are all the same thickness so that they cook evenly and at the same time.

IS IT BETTER TO SHAKE OR FLIP FRIES IN THE AIR FRYER?

This is really a matter of preference, but both methods of moving fries in the air fryer have their pros and cons.

Shaking fries in the air fryer is easy. You don’t need to touch the carrot fries, or worry about what goes where.

Flipping fries in the air fryer is more accurate. If you want to take the time to flip the carrot fries using a spatula or tongs, you will ensure that each fry is perfectly browned on each side.

The downside of flipping air fryer carrot fries is that in the time you take to flip over each fry, the air fryer will lose heat, and the fries will take longer to cook.

Flipping fries in the air fryer is also a really difficult thing to get right. I find it much less stressful to just shake them up and hope for the best!

WHY ARE MY CARROT FRIES BURNING IN THE AIR FRYER?

If your carrot fries are burning, it’s possible that your particular air fryer runs hotter than others.

Try reducing the temperature by 10-15 degrees next time, or pulling the fries out a few minutes sooner.

WHY DID MY CARROT FRIES TURN OUT SOGGY?

Soggy air fryer carrot fries usually happen because there is too much oil on the carrots. If your carrots seem like they are too oily before you cook them, simply wipe some of it away with paper towels.

You might also like to use an oil mister to evenly coat the carrots with oil, instead of tossing them in a bowl.

DO I HAVE TO USE OIL?

Without any oil, your carrots will not be fries. They’ll cook, but they won’t be crispy. You can try reducing the oil if you want to limit excess fat.

CAN I AIR FRY RAINBOW CARROTS?

White, Yellow, Purple, Orange – Whatever color carrots you have will work perfectly in this air fryer recipe.

WHAT IS THE BEST DIPPING SAUCE FOR AIR FRYER CARROT FRIES?

Try ranch dressing, lemon garlic aoili, or spicy mayo. They’re also kind of good with ketchup!

ARE AIR FRYER CARROT FRIES HEALTHY?

Fries made from carrots rather than potatoes are healthier, and the fact that we’re making the whole batch with just a tablespoon of oil means that per serving these fries are only about 80 calories.

You could eat the entire batch, almost guilt free!
