AIR FRYER UNCRUSTABLES - AN EASY LUNCH

Making Uncrustables in the air fryer is just as easy as making Air Fryer Toast - you just put them in, turn the machine on, and get ready for a delicious hot peanut butter and jelly Uncrustables sandwich lunch.

You don't have to stop at lunch though. Uncrustables also make an excellent mid day or evening air fryer snack.

Add a hard boiled air fryer egg and some turkey bacon and you've got yourself a filling breakfast too.

WHY SHOULD YOU AIR FRY UNCRUSTABLES?

I'm so glad you asked! Air Fried Uncrustables are simply superior to cold ones. Here's why:

First, you do not have to let the Uncrustables thaw before air frying them, so there's no need to plan ahead, or suffer through eating a partially frozen PB&J.

Secondly, frozen sandwiches just taste better when they're hot! The peanut butter starts to melt, the jelly gets oozy, and the bread puffs up and toasts beautifully.

Finally, you don't have to take my word for it! There are thousands of folks on Tiktok putting Uncrustables in the air fryer every day. This is a viral sensation that makes total sense.

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER UNCRUSTABLES

This is ridiculously simple, I promise!

Take the Uncrustables out of their packaging. You definitely don't want to put any paper or plastic in the air fryer.
Add the frozen sandwiches to the air fryer basket in a single layer. You can cook 1-4 sandwiches, depending on how hungry you are or how many people you're feeding lunch to.
Air Fry as directed in the recipe card below.
Enjoy the air-fried Uncrustables while they're hot!

CAN I AIR FRY A THAWED UNCRUSTABLE?

While it's not at all necessary to thaw the sandwiches before air frying, if you've already thawed it, you can still air fry it!

For a thawed Uncrustable, reduce the cooking time in the air fryer. Start with 3 minutes, check on your sandwich, and add more time if needed to get it nice and toasty.

SHOULD I ADD BUTTER OR OIL TO AIR FRYER UNCRUSTABLES?

You don't need to add any oil to air fryer uncrustables, but you can if you'd like to create a crispy outer layer on your sandwich.

I suggest a very light layer of butter or margarine on one or both sides. And be sure to flip the sandwich over so that both sides cook evenly.

Here's a fun thing to try: Add a light spread of butter to the top, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar after the uncrustable comes out of the air fryer! This trick turns your peanut butter or hazelnut Uncrustable into a decadent dessert that's more similar to a donut.

CAN I AIR FRY HOMEMADE UNCRUSTABLE SANDWICHES?

I know some of you out there are crafty and have learned how to make your own sealed peanut butter sandwiches to save money.

If you don't already have one, this Sandwich Cutter/Sealer works great to make DIY Uncrustables at home.

To cook your homemade uncrustables, follow the instructions in the recipe below. If the sandwich is frozen, give it 6-8 minutes in the air fryer. If it's fresh, start with 3-5 minutes.

CAN I AIR FRY UNCRUSTABLES BITES?

The newest items from Smucker's Uncrustables line are three varieties of microwavable "bites".

The flavors are Uncured Pepperoni, Taco, and BBQ Chicken.

We haven't had a chance to try these just yet, but I did see a video of someone cooking these in the air fryer, so it definitely can be done!

I'm not completely sure of the timing, but I would suggest 350°F/180°C for 6-8 minutes. Check for doneness and add additional time if needed.

You know what else is easy to cook in the air fryer? Frozen Hot Pockets!

CAN I AIR FRY UNCRUSTABLES ROLL UPS?

The roll up sandwiches from Uncrustables are not sealed in the same way that the round sandwiches are, so I don't recommend air frying them. The cheese would end up melting and falling to the bottom of your air fryer, and that would make a mess!

WHAT ABOUT PEANUT FREE UNCRUSTABLES IN THE AIR FRYER?

If you have Sun Butter and Jelly frozen sandwiches or other nut-free varieties, they will cook in the air fryer exactly the same way.

Sometimes kids bring these home from the school lunch program, or you can order them from specialty grocers. The best way to get peanut-free frozen sandwiches is to make them yourself though.

HOW DO YOU MAKE UNCRUSTABLES DONUTS?

Tiktok made me do this too!

Take any flavor uncrustables (try chocolate hazelnut, peanut butter and honey, or any of the peanut butter and jam versions) and let them thaw just enough to punch a hole in the middle. Use anything you have that will cut a 1 inch circle.
Spray the uncrustable donut with cooking spray, or spread it with butter.
Cook in the air fryer using the instructions below, flipping the donuts halfway through. They are done when they are crispy and browned.
While the air fryer uncrustables are still hot, dip both sides into powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. Yum!

Remove the outer packaging of the Uncrustables
Place the frozen sandwiches in the air fryer basket. Avoid overlapping them.

You can cook as many sandwiches as you can fit in your air fryer basket. Just be sure that they are in a single layer.
The filling may be hot when the sandwiches come out of the air fryer. Be cautious, but don't let them cool down for too long.
For a more lightly toasted Uncrustable, reduce the cooking time to 4-5 minutes.
Pro Tip: This recipe can be made in the air fryer unit with a basket or the air fryer oven. If you are using the air fryer oven, use the middle rack and select the "Air Fry" function.
