INGREDIENTS IN AIR FRYER EGG ROLLS

Toasted Sesame Oil: Sesame oil is used to saute our pork and vegetables– it adds a subtle richness and nutty flavor to the filling. Feel free to swap it for olive oil or vegetable oil if that’s what you have on hand.

Ground Pork: Pork is a traditional ingredient in egg rolls so we’re using it in this recipe as well! You could substitute ground beef or chicken– or leave it out for a vegetarian version.

Coleslaw Mix: Coleslaw mix is a great shortcut! It is a combination of shredded carrots, green cabbage, and purple cabbage. If you can’t find coleslaw mix, you can use 2 cups of very thinly sliced cabbage and ÂĽ cup of grated carrot.

Garlic and Ginger: Garlic and ginger are the aromatics in our egg rolls– they add great flavor! I’m using the grated paste from the grocery store but feel free to grate them on a microplane if you prefer.

Soy Sauce: Soy sauce adds a salty, earthy flavor to the egg rolls.

Hoisin Sauce: Hoisin sauce adds a rich, smoky flavor to the filling– it pairs well with pork and really enhances the flavor of the egg rolls!

Sweet Chili Sauce: Sweet chili sauce is typically used for dipping egg rolls so I like adding a bit of it to the filling to really bring out the sweet and spicy flavor.

Scallions: Scallions add a fresh, gentle onion flavor to the egg rolls.

Egg Roll Wrappers: Egg roll wrappers are a necessity for egg rolls! They’re available in most grocery stores in the refrigerated section near the tofu.

Egg Wash: An egg wash helps seal the egg rolls so they don’t unroll. It also helps them become golden and crisp in the air fryer.

  2. Next add the coleslaw mix, garlic, and ginger.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sweet chili sauce. Add the mixture to the pork and cabbage and stir to combine. Remove the pan from the heat and add the scallions.
  4. Spray your air fryer basket with olive oil spray, allowing the filling to cool for 5 minutes while you preheat the air fryer.
  5. Fill each egg roll wrapper with â…“ cup of filling. Fold in the corners of the egg roll wrapper so that the filling is covered. Then fold the bottom up to cover the filling as well. Gently roll from bottom to top.
  6. Brush the top edge of the egg roll wrapper with the egg wash and press it to seal.
  7. Place a few eggrolls seam side down into the preheated air fryer. Brush the tops of the egg rolls lightly with egg wash and then spray them with olive oil spray.
  8. Cook as directed until golden brown and crisp. Continue cooking the egg rolls in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the air fryer basket. Serve the eggrolls immediately, garnished with green onion and with sweet chili sauce for dipping.

CAN YOU AIR FRY FROZEN EGG ROLLS?

Absolutely! Check out this recipe for Air Fried Frozen Egg Rolls to learn how.

HOW DO YOU GET CRISPY EGG ROLLS IN THE AIR FRYER?

In order to achieve super crispy egg rolls, your first need to make sure you seal the wrapper properly. We use an egg wash along the edges when sealing to ensure it doesn’t come apart while cooking.

The next tip is don’t over crowd the basket. Cook the egg rolls in batches if needed.

And that last tip is to flip the egg rolls over halfway through cooking and spray again with oil.

WHAT SAUCE SHOULD I DIP EGG ROLLS IN?

We use sweet chili sauce in the pork and cabbage mixture, but it is also a great dipping sauce. We think they would taste incredible with this Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Sauce too!
