Let’s talk about the Large Air Fryer

If you are in the market to purchase a large air fryer, you need to consider many factors! Do I want an air fryer with a basket? Do you want a double basket air fryer? Do I want an air fryer oven? So you have the style of the air fryer to compare and consider. 

You have probably decided that you need a large air fryer and that is how you landed here. If so, welcome!  There are so many brands of air fryers out there as well as different models. So before you buy that new kitchen appliance we want to make sure that you pick the right one! To help make it easier, we have broken it all down for you in this post! 

With over 100 air fryer model options out there, it can be confusing. The most common air fryer sizes are 2 quart to 6 quarts. BUT we are talking about the large air fryer here, so we are going bigger than 6 quarts!  

Did you know,  there are extra large sized air fryers that are up to 13 quarts?  Air Fryers are generally not labeled as a small air fryer or a large air fryer, etc. They are labeled with quarts (here in the US) so we are going to stick with that for this article. This article is written based upon air fryers available in the United States. Other countries may vary slightly and those air fryers will also probably be measured in liters, not quarts.

Large Air Fryer

Many of our air fryer friends, in our air fryer community, say that they wished they would have bought a large air fryer to start with. That is pretty common and that might be how you are feeling, so let’s break it down to see which large air fryer or extra large air fryer might be the right fit for you!

If you are cooking for a family and want to be able to cook the entire main dish in the air fryer, such as Air Fryer Chicken Tenders, then a large air fryer or extra large air fryer might be the right air fryer size for you. 

Large Air Fryers are perfect for cooking Whole Chickens in the Air Fryer as well as Air Fryer Hamburgers (you can fit 4-6) and also a whole Air Fryer Ham.

If you want to make large batches of snacks like, Air Fryer Jalapeno Poppers or Air Fryer Potato Skins then a large or extra large air fryer would be the right air fryer size for you. I can personally speak to this. We are a family of four and sometimes we do have to air fryer in batches. Having an extra large air fryer helps cut down my time in the kitchen. Less batches of food, is less time spent in the kitchen! 

Generally, the large air fryers are ones with baskets, however some of the air fryers in the “large air fryer” category do have racks.

When it comes to an air fryer 5 qt, these medium to large size air fryers are good for cooking up 4-5 frozen turkey burgers at a time or a bag of frozen chicken wings.

6 Quart Air Fryer

Many of the 5-6 quart air fryers are very similar, while the quart size varies by only 1 quart, they should probably be considered in the same category.  Just like the 5 qt air fryer, the 6 quart air fryer will easily cook up 4-5 frozen turkey burgers at a time or a bag of frozen chicken wings.

To keep things a little more concise, we have joined together the extra large air fryer and family sized air fryer into the same category. We consider an extra large air fryer to be 7 quarts or more. When it comes to an extra large air fryer there are a few things to consider. 

Space for a Family Sized Air Fryer

When you get into the extra large air fryer category, these air fryer units are big. They will take up a lot of counter space or a lot of space in your cabinets. Be sure that your kitchen can handle the size of the unit!

Functions of an extra large air fryer

When you dip your toes into the extra large air fryer category you actually get an air fryer with a lot more options than a small air fryer. These family sized air fryers tend to have several functions, like: baking air frying, dehydrating, broiling and more! Generally, the style of a family sized air fryer is an air fryer oven. It simply works the best for use of space in the appliance. If you do not want an oven type air fryer, be sure to do your research and stick to the large air fryer size! (5-6 quarts)
